- Hope 4 Bristol Fest - Transition Workers - Hengrove Park vision -

The Bristol Joshua Trust is best known as the charity behind the 'Love Bristol Festival', held in July 2006 on Hengrove Park. The festival not only put South Bristol on the map, it also highlighted the many social issues being faced by people there. (click here for full report)

The Trust is a Christian charity working alongside local churches, voluntary organisations, the Local Authority and caring individuals, in order to bring about the social and economic transformation of South Bristol. It consists of a small group of people, many partners and hundreds of volunteers!

Trust Activities

Love Bristol Festival

The Trust raised over £200,000 and attracted over 750 volunteers from across Bristol to complete over 100 social action projects (mural painting, clearing community sites, litter picking etc).

Transition / Youth Workers

The Trust funds two sessional workers that live locally and support children moving from primary to secondary schools in Hartcliffe and Withywood.

Vision for 07/08

  • Fund full time transition workers for schools within Hartcliffe, Withywood and Knowle West to improve educational achievement and long term prospects.
  • Run 'clean up' projects where volunteers dig gardens, clean up community areas, cut hedges etc in order to encourage neighbourliness.
  • Support several 'Lighthouses' in South Bristol for local people to receive support, advice, freindship and a good meal. Including "enough"
  • Support Hope 08 in a variety of ways; running relationship, parenting, debt, and drug proofing your kids courses to support strong family structures.
  • Organise and run Hope 4 Bristol Fest in the summer of 08. This is a series of five fetes held in areas of need during a week of social action. The fetes are community based and highlight local talent and skill and will culminate in a larger festival being held on Hengrove Park on the Saturday.
  • Launch and support Xsight - drama with a vision aimed at improving understanding, self esteem, confidence and well being amongst children.
  • To promote the vision for Hengrove Park, to be a leisure park site that has the potential to sustain voluntary projects across South Bristol for the long term.

Working with us

Most of our work is done through the amazing giving of others. We are looking for specific resources this year and if you can help, please contact us on 0117 903 9794, or email Penny Hopkins at penny@joshuatrust.co.uk.

We are looking for...

  • Volunteers to help out with a September clear up which promotes growing your own veg! So if you have green fingers please contact us.
  • Volunteers with a heart for youth to move to Knowle West and Hartcliffe to set up community homes and provide support to local people through the Lighthouse project.
  • Lots of volunteers to help organise Hope 4 Bristol Fest in the summer of 08. We will need a lot of skills both before and during the festival, so if you would like to help, contact us as soon as you can.
  • Actors and actresses, or those with a love of dramatics, are needed to share their talents with young people within the Xsight drama group.
  • Funds to support this work. If you would like to give, contact Penny for a donation form.
  • Lots of prayer. If you would like our newsletter, so you can pray for the activities we are working on, sign up by sending an email to Penny with 'Newsletter' in the subject heading.

To volunteer any of your skills or if you just want to know more, call Penny on 0117 903 9794.
